Urban Barn has opened its first New Brunswick location in Moncton, expanding the Canadian furniture and home décor retailer’s network to 55 stores across the country and adding 11 employees in the region.

The new store, located at Mapleton Centre at 62 Wyse St., officially opened Oct. 30, marking the Burnaby, B.C.-based company’s entry into New Brunswick since launching its retail operations in 1990.

The expansion represents the company’s latest move into Atlantic Canada, where it already operates stores in Nova Scotia. The Moncton location also extends its retail presence into another provincial market, giving customers in New Brunswick and surrounding areas access to its in-store product offerings and design services.

New location adds 6,200 square feet of retail space

The store occupies more than 6,200 square feet and features furniture collections for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and home offices, along with lighting, rugs, pillows, textiles, wall décor, mirrors, kitchen and tabletop accessories and seasonal home products.

Customers can also access complimentary one-on-one design consultations. The location is wheelchair-accessible and offers free parking at the shopping centre. Urban Barn also provides access to its national trade program for design professionals.

“The opening of our Moncton store signifies Urban Barn’s continued growth as a brand and a business,” said Sebastien Fauteux, creative director and general merchandise manager at Urban Barn.

“We’re very excited to be a part of a new community in Atlantic Canada and bring our beautiful, well-made furniture and décor to design enthusiasts in Moncton and New Brunswick as well as throughout the region. They’ll be able to shop beyond the screen, in-person, all while being immersed in our inspirational store experience.”

The company said the new location opened with a staff of 11, all from the Moncton area. The team includes a store manager, an assistant manager and two store supervisors.

Grand opening planned for November

Although the store is already welcoming customers, Urban Barn has scheduled its official grand opening celebrations for Nov. 21.

The event will include giveaways, promotions and in-store activities. The company will also use the occasion to support Crossroads for Women, a Moncton-area organization that provides shelter to women and children fleeing domestic violence.

Urban Barn was founded in 1990 and is headquartered in Burnaby, B.C. The company describes itself as a 100 per cent Canadian-owned and operated furniture and décor retailer.

Its 55-store network spans British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, with the Moncton opening marking its first location in the province.

Peter Constable and Don Gregor of Aurora Retail Group represented Urban Barn in the lease deal.
