Hyatt Hotels Corporation says it expects to open 10 hotels in Canada in 2027, marking the company’s largest annual expansion in the country as its portfolio continues to grow across multiple hotel brands and markets.
The Chicago-based hospitality company said its portfolio of open Canadian hotels has quadrupled since 2017 and that it has more than 40 hotel development deals in its pipeline. The planned openings include new luxury properties, the introduction of additional hotel brands and developments targeting extended-stay travellers.
“Our growth reflects the strength of our relationships with owners and developers, the breadth of our brands and the flexibility of our development models,” said Julienne Smith, head of Americas growth at Hyatt. “Canada remains an important market with significant opportunity to expand our brand presence.”
Scott Richer, head of growth for Canada at Hyatt, said the company is focused on expanding its relationships with hotel owners as it prepares for the anticipated increase in openings.
“As we look toward a record year of openings in 2027, our focus remains on deepening relationships with owners and creating opportunities to grow together,” said Richer. “At Hyatt, business is personal. It’s about understanding our owners’ goals, earning their trust and creating lasting value for them and our guests.”

Recent openings expand Canadian presence
Hyatt’s recent Canadian additions include properties in Ontario and British Columbia, spanning several of its hotel brands.
They include The Clayfield, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, in Niagara-on-the-Lake; Hyatt Place Vancouver / Metrotown in Burnaby; Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview in Niagara Falls; and Hyatt House Thunder Bay in Thunder Bay.
The company is also preparing to expand its luxury portfolio with the anticipated opening of Park Hyatt Vancouver. The property will establish a West Coast presence for the brand, complementing Park Hyatt Toronto in the east.
Hyatt said the two properties will represent its presence in two Canadian gateway cities as it continues to expand its luxury hotel offerings.
New brand partnership targets Haida Gwaii
Another part of the company’s Canadian expansion involves the introduction of its Unscripted by Hyatt collection through a partnership with Haida Enterprise Corporation, the economic development arm of the Haida Nation.
The collection is designed to give independent hotels access to Hyatt’s global network while allowing them to retain their individual identities. Two properties on Graham Island in Haida Gwaii, B.C., are expected to join the brand: Haida House at Tllaal in Tlell and Ocean House at Tlaga Gawtlaas in Old Massett.
The partnership is intended to expand the properties’ reach while maintaining their Haida ownership and connection to the region.
“Haida House and Ocean House are distinctly Haida Gwaii, and that will remain at the heart of who we are,” said Leticia Hill, CEO of Haida Enterprise Corporation. “This collaboration with the Unscripted by Hyatt brand gives us an opportunity to share these special places with a broader audience while maintaining our Haida ownership, identity and connection to Haida Gwaii.”

Hyatt Select and Hyatt Studios enter Canadian market
Hyatt’s expansion strategy also includes introducing two upper-midscale brands in Canada: Hyatt Select and Hyatt Studios.
Hyatt Select is designed primarily for hotel conversions, offering owners an option to bring existing properties into the company’s portfolio. Hyatt Studios is focused on extended-stay accommodation, with apartment-style suites featuring kitchens and practical amenities for longer visits.
Hyatt Select Kingston is expected to open later this year in Ontario, marking the brand’s Canadian debut.
In 2027, Hyatt Select Prince Albert and Hyatt Studios Prince Albert are expected to open as a dual-branded development in Saskatchewan. The project will also mark the Canadian debut of Hyatt Studios.
The company said both brands are designed to provide owners with access to its commercial capabilities and World of Hyatt loyalty program.
Hyatt Select is aimed at secondary and tertiary markets, while Hyatt Studios is intended to serve travellers requiring longer-term accommodation.
Hyatt said its Canadian development strategy will continue to focus on working with hotel owners to expand its presence in markets across the country.
The company, which is headquartered in Chicago, reported that its global portfolio included more than 1,500 hotels and all-inclusive properties in 83 countries across six continents as of June 30, 2026.
