Montreal-based Mahée Perfumes will open its first freestanding flagship this spring in Montreal. The store will feature the company’s expanded product assortment, which now includes handbags and other accessories.

The company was founded in Montreal in 2009 by well-known actress Mahee Paiement and her husband Jean-François Comeau. Their first fragrance, Mahée, quickly grew to become one of the top-selling in Quebec. The company has since added body milks and other fragrances to the collection, and also retails a line of handbags and wallets which have proven to be popular. Last year, the company launched another wildly successful fragrance called Angélique, prompting the brand to seek growth opportunities. Mahée products are also available in over 850 stores in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick.

The new boutique, called Mahée, will replace Nine West at 1344 Sainte Catherine Street West in Montreal. The retail space is strategically located across the street from Ogilvy and an Apple Store, and is only a few doors west of COS by H&M’s first Montreal store. Sources say that other upscale brands are seeking freestanding retail space in the area, including Italian luxury label Dolce & Gabbana

The husband and wife team will launch a new collection of handbags and accessories as part of the launch, according to the company. A source familiar with the company also says that Mahée is already thinking long-term, contemplating opening freestanding stores in Toronto and Vancouver at some point in the future.
