Sweat and Tonic will open its third Toronto location in Yorkville on Nov. 21, expanding its fitness and wellness business with an 18,000-square-foot facility featuring about 300 classes per week and a new group strength training studio.

The facility at 11 Yorkville Ave. will combine indoor cycling, yoga, Pilates, strength training and recovery amenities, along with a members’ lounge and co-working space. The company said introductory packages for the location sold out within 30 minutes during a pre-opening sale, while founding membership offers sold out within 12 hours.

New strength training studio

The Yorkville location will feature four studio experiences: an indoor cycling studio, a hot yoga and Pilates studio, Reformd, the company’s Lagree Method studio, and a high-capacity group strength training studio.

The strength studio will accommodate 48 participants across 12 workout pods, with Rogue weight racks, Keiser cable equipment using pneumatic resistance systems, digital instruction screens and audio-visual equipment.

David Ingram, founder of Sweat and Tonic, said the expansion reflects growing interest in weight training and demand for the company’s existing small-group strength classes.

“With global trends showing participation in weight training activities growing dramatically over the last several years – particularly among women, who make up 75% of our community – along with the demand we’ve seen for our existing small group strength training classes, we saw an opportunity to rethink what that could look like, and to evolve how we support our guests at every stage of their fitness and wellness journey,” said Ingram.

“We know that muscular strength, functional mobility, recovery, and community-belonging are all critical contributors to our well-being. The goal was to create a space where our guests can make meaningful progress – one that brings together focused training, thoughtful and progressive programming, along with our signature experience, elevated design, recovery amenities, and the connection that we all crave.”

The company cited data from IHRSA 2025 indicating that floor space devoted to resistance and functional training zones more than doubled between 2019 and 2024, rising from about 20 per cent to 42 per cent. Cardio space declined to about 12 per cent, while participation among women and people aged 20 to 35 increased by more than 25 per cent since 2019.

Membership model and recovery amenities

The Yorkville facility will also include Tonic House, a members’ lounge, co-working space and event venue with a fireplace, soundproof phone booths and a cocktail bar. Guests will also have access to food and drinks from Tonic Bar, the company’s smoothie and healthy-bites cafe.

Both the women’s and men’s change rooms will feature contrast therapy suites with infrared and high-heat electric saunas and cold plunge tubs. The company said the amenities will be available to guests at no additional charge.

Ingram said the company aims to offer a range of fitness and wellness services through a single membership system, while avoiding some of the contractual restrictions associated with traditional gym memberships.

“We’ve made a commitment to deliver the most comprehensive and highest-value group fitness and wellness membership in Canada, where you can access our full range of yoga, Pilates, HIIT, strength training, indoor cycling, HYROX training, Lagree, guided sauna, pool deck, contrast therapy, and recovery options – under one ecosystem,” said Ingram.

“The traditional fitness industry is modelled around friction. Difficult to join, and even more difficult to leave with fixed commitment terms, minimum notice periods, and cancellation fees. It’s been our mandate to do away with that friction – no annual contracts, no initiation or cancellation fees, and truly unlimited access to the widest selection of group fitness classes there is in Canada without any daily, weekly, or monthly limits. Whether you’re joining our community on an Unlimited membership, our universal credits, or pay-as-you go platforms, we’ve removed all barriers to entry to ensure access options that cater to the unique circumstances of every guest. We know all of this is important to our community; nearly seven years in, we’ve welcomed over 3.4 million in guest bookings. We’re incredibly grateful for all of the continued support, and so excited to finally bring this level of value and quality to the Yorkville neighbourhood.”

Expansion plans and pricing

Sweat and Tonic is offering a limited number of pre-opening Unlimited memberships for Yorkville at $260 per month, compared with the regular monthly price of $280.

The membership includes unlimited yoga, Pilates, strength training and indoor cycling classes at Yorkville, as well as access to Tonic House. Members will also receive unlimited access to the pool deck at the company’s Tonic Spa location at Front and Spadina streets, along with four monthly class credits that can be used at any Sweat and Tonic location.

The Yorkville opening follows the company’s expansion to The Well in Toronto in December 2023, when it opened its second Sweat and Tonic location alongside Tonic Spa. In June 2025, the company added Reformd, a Lagree fitness studio, and The Lab, a dedicated HYROX training studio.

Sweat and Tonic also operates Silver Springs, a yoga and Pilates studio in Los Angeles that opened in spring 2023 as its first international sister location. The company has announced plans to expand Reformd to Calabasas, California, in early 2027.
