Toronto-based fitness concept REFORMD is expanding into the United States with a new location at The Commons at Calabasas in Southern California, scheduled to open in January 2027. Developed by Canadian fitness and wellness company Sweat and Tonic, the new studio will feature 37 Lagree EVO PRO machines alongside an extensive range of wellness and recovery services.

The company describes the location as the world’s largest Lagree studio, building on its original Toronto concept launched in June 2025. The California expansion is being undertaken through a partnership between Sweat and Tonic founder David Ingram and Heather Perren, a senior figure in the Lagree fitness community who will principally own and operate the new location.

Building on REFORMD’s Toronto Success

REFORMD opened its first studio in Toronto in June 2025, introducing a large-format facility dedicated to the Lagree Method, a high-intensity, low-impact workout focused on strength and muscular endurance. The Toronto studio features 31 MegaPro Megaformers and has recorded more than 126,000 guest bookings since opening, according to the company.

The concept was developed by Sweat and Tonic, which Ingram founded in Toronto in 2019. The company has since expanded its fitness and wellness offerings to include yoga, Pilates, strength training, indoor cycling and recovery services, reporting more than 3.4 million guest bookings across its operations since launching.

Sweat and Tonic operates at The Well in downtown Toronto and has been preparing another location in Yorkville, part of its continued expansion in the city. The planned Yorkville club, at 11 Yorkville Avenue, spans approximately 18,000 square feet and will offer several fitness disciplines alongside wellness amenities. Retail Insider previously reported on the Yorkville expansion.

Partnership Brings REFORMD to California

The Calabasas studio is being developed in partnership with Heather Perren, a Lagree Senior Master Trainer and Director of Events at Lagree HQ. Perren has nearly a decade of experience in the Lagree community, including instructor education, certification and fitness programming, and grew up in the Calabasas area.

“Our mission at Sweat and Tonic has always been to elevate the fitness and wellness experience,” said Ingram in the announcement. “We pushed the boundaries of what a Lagree studio could be with our flagship location in Toronto, creating one of the largest and busiest studios in the world.”

Ingram said the partnership will build on the Toronto operation while introducing additional wellness services to the California market. Perren’s involvement provides a local operating partner with established connections in the Lagree community, while Sweat and Tonic brings experience developing and managing large-format fitness facilities.

Large-Format Studio Combines Fitness and Recovery

The new REFORMD location will have 35 EVO PRO machines in its main group-training studio, with two additional machines in a dedicated private training and education space. The main studio will include an instructor stage, audiovisual technology, programmed spotlighting and colour-changing lighting designed around the group workout experience.

The facility will also contain six wellness and recovery treatment rooms, offering services including massage therapy, Zerobody dry flotation, electric cryotherapy, compression therapy and the Ammortal Chamber. A separate recovery lounge will feature Therabody equipment, lymphatic massage rollers and other recovery tools.

These services will be available to customers regardless of whether they participate in Lagree classes, giving the location a broader wellness offering beyond scheduled group workouts. The arrangement follows Sweat and Tonic’s approach in Toronto, where fitness programming is offered alongside spa and recovery services.

“We’re creating something that goes far beyond a traditional fitness studio,” said Perren. “Our vision is to bring together world-class Lagree training, innovative wellness and recovery, and an elevated experience that makes people genuinely excited to walk through our doors.”

Opening at an Upscale California Shopping Destination

REFORMD will occupy space at The Commons at Calabasas, an upscale open-air shopping centre developed by Caruso. The property features a mix of retail, restaurants and services, with tenants including lululemon, Sephora and Zimmermann, alongside luxury watch retailers and other businesses serving the surrounding Calabasas community.

Caruso is also undertaking a broader expansion of the shopping destination, with plans for additional shops, restaurants, pedestrian areas and residential units. The addition of REFORMD brings a large-format fitness and wellness use to the property’s existing mix, providing another reason for customers to visit the centre beyond shopping and dining.

The California opening will not be Sweat and Tonic’s first involvement in the Los Angeles market. The company expanded into the region in 2023 with Silver Springs, a sister fitness studio, while continuing to develop its operations in Toronto.

REFORMD Calabasas is scheduled to open in January 2027, with advance registration and information about opening promotions available through REFORMD’s California website. The location will be the first U.S. studio operating under the REFORMD brand.
