Skip is launching a nationwide promotion offering 10 Canadians up to a year of McDonald’s meals delivered through its platform, as the food delivery company looks to increase customer engagement through contests, membership incentives and in-person events.

The campaign, running to Dec. 13, will award 10 grand prize winners up to 365 McDonald’s order redemptions, with a maximum of $30 toward each eligible order. Winners will also receive a complimentary Skip+ membership, which provides $0 delivery fees on nearly every order and access to exclusive in-app savings.

The promotion includes additional opportunities to win through live events in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton, where four more participants will be crowned Meallionaires.

Skip targets customer engagement through national campaign

Customers can enter the grand prize draw by placing and completing an order from any participating McDonald’s restaurant through Skip during the promotional period. Skip+ members will receive three entries for every qualifying order, compared with one entry for other eligible customers.

Rachel MacAdam, vice-president of marketing at Skip, said the campaign is intended to connect the company’s delivery services with a familiar restaurant brand while offering additional incentives to its membership base.

“We’re all about helping Canadians Skip to the good part of their day, and sometimes that’s as simple as your favourite McDonald’s order arriving at the door,” said MacAdam. “With the Meallionaire campaign, we’re leveling up that everyday moment, delivering our customers the chance to win a year of McDonald’s on us, plus extra value for Skip+ members who gain additional entries to win. We’re also taking the excitement beyond the app and directly to Canadians in their communities, with in-person activations in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.”

Skip is also organizing public events in the four cities, with attendees able to participate in an interactive digital spin wheel for an opportunity to win a year of McDonald’s orders.

The events will feature live marching bands, food samples and promotional vouchers. Skip will also distribute 10 $100 gift cards at each location, while supplies last.

The scheduled activations begin in Toronto on Nov. 7 at 3 Blue Jays Way at noon Eastern time, followed by The Forks in Winnipeg on Nov. 14 at noon Central time. Calgary’s event is scheduled for Nov. 21 on Stephen Avenue Walk at noon Mountain time, with the final activation taking place Nov. 28 at ICE District Plaza in Edmonton, also at noon Mountain time.

McDonald’s meal promotions accompany contest

The campaign also includes a series of buy-one-get-one-free offers on selected McDonald’s meals available through Skip.

From Nov. 2 to 15, customers can purchase a Big Mac Meal and receive a second one free. The offer changes to 10-piece Chicken McNugget Meals from Nov. 16 to 29, followed by Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meals from Nov. 30 to Dec. 13.

Dan Logan, delivery lead at McDonald’s Canada, said the partnership provides an opportunity to connect with customers through both delivery orders and community events.

“McDonald’s is part of so many everyday moments for Canadians, so it was a natural fit to partner with Skip to make even more of those moments possible as lucky Meallionaires are crowned across the country,” said Dan Logan, Delivery Lead, McDonald’s Canada. “Whether fans are ordering a favourite menu item through Skip or joining us in person at one of the live activations, we look forward to being a part of the excitement.”

Canadians who cannot attend the in-person events can still enter the national contest by ordering McDonald’s through Skip before Dec. 13. Complete contest rules and additional information are available through Skip’s Instagram account, @skip_canada.

Skip’s national delivery network

Skip began as a local start-up in the Prairies in 2012 and has expanded its operations to more than 450 Canadian cities and towns. The company connects customers with more than 50,000 restaurant, grocery, convenience and retail partners.

The company operates as a subsidiary of Just Eat Takeaway.com, an international on-demand delivery business. Its Skip+ membership program offers benefits including $0 delivery fees on eligible orders, exclusive offers and member-only promotions.

McDonald’s Canada, meanwhile, traces its Canadian operations to the opening of its first restaurant in Richmond, B.C., in 1967. The company says its restaurants serve nearly two million customers daily and employ almost 100,000 people across the country.

More than 90 per cent of its approximately 1,500 Canadian restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, according to the company.
