Welcome to the Daily Synopsis by Retail Insider. We hope you enjoy the 12 articles we published covering key developments in Canadian retail. Here are a couple highlights with a full list of the day’s articles thereafter.
Canada’s natural, organic, and wellness sector faces rising costs and supply challenges due to escalating tariffs on products like gluten-free foods and whey-based items. These pressures threaten an industry that supports over 147,000 jobs and approaches $40 billion in value. Meanwhile, Central Walk is redeveloping 310,000 square feet of former Hudson’s Bay space at Woodgrove Centre and Mayfair Shopping Centre, adding anchors such as H Mart, TM Wander, family entertainment, and Haidilao to expand tenant diversity and consumer draw.
7-Eleven Canada is expanding its food strategy by importing best-selling Korean snacks from its international network, following the strong performance of a Japanese-style egg salad sandwich. KaleMart24, a Montreal-based convenience store chain, is accelerating its expansion across Quebec and Ontario with plans to open at least 22 stores by early 2027 and a target of over 100 locations by year-end. Altea has secured a 51,000-square-foot long-term lease at RioCan’s Bayview and Broadway property in Toronto’s Leaside to develop a wellness club opening December 2027.
