Pajar Canada, a Montreal-based leader in premium winter footwear and outerwear, has acquired Cougar, another iconic Canadian footwear brand. Both brands share a rich history, and their merger will expand their reach across Canada and international markets.
Founded in 1963, Pajar Canada has built its reputation on blending traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. The acquisition of Cougar, which has been producing high-quality waterproof footwear since 1948, reflects Pajarโs vision of expanding its market presence while maintaining the core values that have defined both brands for decades.
โWeโre excited to bring Cougar into the fold,โ said Michel Golbert, President of Pajar Canada. โBoth brands are Canadian institutions, and together, we can leverage our strengths to provide innovative, quality products to more customers globally.โ

Strengthening Canadian Heritage with International Expansion
Pajar plans to capitalize on its well-established distribution networks to grow the Cougar brand, initially in Canada and the United States, before moving into Europe. Golbert explained that Trend Marketing, one of the largest footwear distributors in Canada, will handle Cougarโs domestic distribution. Pajar will oversee Cougarโs entry into the U.S. market, beginning with a major product launch at the FFANY Show in New York this December.
โWeโve built a robust presence in 25 countries, and we see a great opportunity to bring Cougar into Europe, following a model similar to what weโve done with Pajar,โ Golbert shared. The strategic move allows Pajar to extend Cougarโs reach to new customers while maintaining its long-standing commitment to durability and style.
Future Opportunities for Product Development
Although Cougar is known primarily for its footwear, the acquisition opens the door for potential product diversification. Golbert mentioned the possibility of Cougar expanding into outerwear, much like Pajar has successfully done.

However, these plans are in the early stages, and for now, the focus remains on solidifying Cougarโs place in the global market.
โWeโre still in the early stages of planning, but thereโs a lot of potential. Weโre excited to see how we can take Cougarโs legacy of quality footwear and apply it to other product categories,โ Golbert said.
