Guildford Town Centre, the premier shopping destination in B.C.’s Fraser Valley in Surrey, has launched a unique concept within the shopping centre – The Book Corner, which is a community-focused bookstore experience.
The month-long pop-up will feature a curated selection of approximately 1,000 titles, spanning children’s books, young adult literature, adult fiction, and trending bestsellers alongside popular genres like romance, fantasy, and thrillers.
Launched by popular demand, The Book Corner is part cozy reading destination and part community fundraiser. In addition to its extensive book selection, the pop-up will feature bookish merchandise, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society. These funds will directly support vital literacy initiatives through Surrey Libraries and the Surrey Youth Grants program, explained the Centre.

“For decades, the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society has been proud to partner with Guildford Town Centre,” said Dylan Van Rooyen, Senior Manager of the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society. “We’re excited to collaborate on this innovative initiative, which will directly benefit our Surrey Youth Grants program and our ongoing partnership with Surrey Libraries.
“We are grateful for Guildford Town Centre’s continued commitment to giving back, and we know this initiative will raise vital funds while bringing the community together in support of literacy, education, and local families.”
To celebrate the launch, shoppers can participate in The Book Corner’s Library Card Promotion. Customers who collect five stamps -one per book purchase- can present their completed card and receipts at Guests Services for a $10 Guildford Town Centre Reward Card, while supplies last.
Located in Centre Court North (Lower Level), The Book Corner is designed to feel like a storybook brought to life. With dark green and gold accents, brick-style walls, trailing greenery, cozy seating, and curated book displays, the pop-up invites shoppers to browse, linger, and get lost in something good.
“Guildford Town Centre has always been a gathering place for the community, and this pop-up gives shoppers a meaningful new way to connect, discover, and give back,” said Kiran Deol, Marketing Manager of Guildford Town Centre. “We’re proud to bring it to life in a way that feels community-driven, accessible, and rooted in giving back.”

Deol said The Book Corner was launched by popular demand.
“Over the past few years, trends like BookTok have completely revitalized reading – turning what used to be a solitary activity into a vibrant, digital-first community movement. We wanted to bring that online enthusiasm into a physical, tangible space where people can connect in real life,” she said.
“Shopping centres are no longer just places to shop; we are community hubs and gathering places. Bringing The Book Corner to life proves that physical retail destinations can be nimble and responsive to real-time cultural trends. By translating a viral digital community into an immersive brick-and-mortar experience, we’re showing how shopping centres can curate experiences that reflect what our community actually cares about right now.”
Deol said pop-ups give the mall the creative freedom to test new concepts, create urgency, and build an atmosphere that feels distinct and temporary – like stepping into a storybook brought to life.
“Running this for a focused month-long period allows us to capture the peak back-to-school energy while testing high-engagement experiential retail in Centre Court North,” she said.

“Through this activation, we’re hoping to gain valuable insights into our community’s appetite for independent, curated bookstore concepts and experiential spaces. We want to learn how physical reading hubs influence dwell time, how digital trends translate to physical sales, and how incentives like our Library Card stamp promotion drive repeat visits. It’s a great opportunity to gather real-time data while offering something fresh to our shoppers.”
Deol said officials specifically curated the collection of titles to reflect both seasonal timing and modern reader habits.
“With the back-to-school season right around the corner, ensuring a strong presence of children’s books and Young Adult (YA) literature was essential for families and students preparing for the new school year,” she added.
“At the same time, we couldn’t ignore the massive influence of BookTok, where genres like romance, fantasy, and fast-paced thrillers dominate the conversation. We balanced timeless bestsellers and children’s titles with these highly requested, trending genres to make sure there’s something for every type of reader.”
Back-to-school is naturally one of the mall’s busiest times of the year, but The Book Corner adds a unique layer of engagement.
“Visually, the space is designed to be an absolute focal point in Centre Court North, complete with dark green and gold accents, brick-style walls, trailing greenery, and cozy seating that invites shoppers to linger, rather than just pass through,” she noted.

“We expect it to draw significant foot traffic from book lovers across the Fraser Valley and the GVA. Plus, initiatives like our Library Card promotion – where purchasing five books earns shoppers a $10 Guildford Town Centre Reward Card – encourage repeat visits and spending across our entire tenant mix, creating a lift for neighbouring retailers.”
Deol said it’s a top priority for Guildford Town Centre to have a meaningful connection to the local community.
“Knowing that 100% of proceeds are going directly to the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society to support Surrey Libraries and the Surrey Youth Grants program gives every purchase a purpose,” she said.
“We’ve had a long-standing partnership with the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society that spans decades, and this initiative allows us to combine retail innovation with direct local impact. Our goal is to raise vital funds, promote accessible literacy for local families, and reinforce that when our community comes together at Guildford Town Centre, incredible things happen.”
