I’m surprised at the enthusiastic comments over Simons’ Toronto Eaton Centre store. In his March 2023 interview with RI, Mark Cohen (former CEO of Sears Canada) suggested that too much of the traffic at TEC is transit patrons rather than actual retail customers. He should know–the same premises Simons will be occupying were once Sears’ flagship Toronto store. I would rather have seen Simons go into Scarborough Town Centre (as they had announced around 2015, but never happened) instead of TEC.
The Yorkdale store should be a home run for Simons, however. They get a former Nordstrom box which was only slightly used and has very few miles on it.
