A Zellers store will re-open in suburban Ottawa on April 3rd. It will be one of only three Zellers stores still in existence, joining locations in suburban Toronto and Vancouver.

Ottawa’s Zellers will be located in the Bells Corners area of Nepean, adjacent to a Loblaws grocery store. It will carry fashion clearance and home products from Hudson’s Bay Company stores. The location was originally a Zellers store whose lease wasn’t picked up by Target or Walmart.

In January of 2011, it was announced that Target would take over 220 Zellers leases from the Hudson’s Bay Company. Most Zellers store locations were closed by early 2013.

In January of 2013, it was revealed that the Hudson’s Bay Company would keep three Zellers stores open – one at 1255 The Queensway in Toronto, one at Place Bourassa in Montreal and one at the Semiamo Shopping Centre in White Rock, BC. The Montreal location has since closed.

Spanish Luxury Brand Loewe Enters Canada with 1st Standalone Store at...

The brand entered Canada through Nordstrom several years ago, and is now expanding in a big way with its first flagship storefront carrying Loewe’s entire product assortment.

  1. I’ve gotten some good deals at the Zellers Queensway location. You do have to hunt through all sorts of stuff, but I’ve been 5-6 times and scored done bargains. Although it isn’t anything like Zellers was.

  2. Mostly clearance merchandise from Hudson’s Bay and Home Outfitters, although I think some things are obtained for the store such as low priced DVDs and CDs. Lots of furniture as well from the Bay. The Etobicoke store is about 2/3 full. It is just racks, shelves etc and not as nicely merchandised as the outlet store at Toronto Premium Outlets near Georgetown.

The store uses Hudson’s Bay POS system opposed to the Zellers POS system.

  3. I think it serves a purpose of using their trademarked name Zellers. Macy’s has lost control of some of their legacy store names such as Jordan Marsh due to non use. Also I think to a lot of people the Zellers name means something. I have a lot of substantial fond memories of the chain – starting as a child with toys, the first tv I bought myself , first computer.

I also expect the only Hudson’s Bay outlet to become an Off Fifth outlet and that they grabbed the location before they bought Saks as they didn’t want Nordstrom to grab it for their Rackndividion.
