Montréal mixed-use destination ROYALMOUNT is using Genetec Security Center to bring its physical security systems together while supporting daily operations at the growing retail, dining and entertainment complex.
The development, operated by Carbonleo, is expected to welcome about 11 million to 12 million visitors annually and currently includes 170 stores, 60 restaurants and cafés, cultural programming, public art and green spaces. Additional phases are planned over the next decade.
ROYALMOUNT also includes a 77,000-square-foot urban park, a pedestrian bridge connected to Montréal’s metro network and about 3,600 indoor and outdoor parking spaces. The scale of the development and its planned expansion required a security platform capable of supporting existing operations while adapting to future needs, Genetec said in a release.
“Genetec Security Center helps us connect physical security with the day-to-day operation of ROYALMOUNT,” said François Pelletier, Security Supervisor at Carbonleo. “That means protecting people while also helping visitors arrive easily, move safely throughout the property, and enjoy the experience ROYALMOUNT was designed to provide.”
The Security Center platform provides operators with a unified view of hundreds of cameras, electronically controlled doors, maps, cardholder information, access schedules and vehicle data.
The system allows operators to investigate events and manage access without switching between separate applications. Doors and associated cameras can also be viewed together on the same maps.

Genetec said the platform’s open architecture gives ROYALMOUNT flexibility to integrate additional technologies and add capabilities as its operational requirements change. That flexibility is intended to support the development as additional phases are completed over the coming decade.
Parking operations are also being integrated into the broader system through Genetec AutoVu SharpV cameras.
The cameras work with ROYALMOUNT’s vehicle registration, parking management and payment technologies to recognize registered licence plates and allow vehicles to enter in about one to two seconds.
The system is intended to simplify vehicle arrivals while providing ROYALMOUNT’s operations team with information about vehicle activity on the property.
As the development continues, ROYALMOUNT plans to explore greater use of analytics to assess attendance, capacity and traffic patterns, as well as how visitors use different areas of the property.

The information is expected to help the team manage events and improve the visitor experience as the destination expands.
Genetec, headquartered in Montréal, develops physical security technology including video management, access control and automatic licence plate recognition. Its portfolio also includes intrusion detection, intercom and digital evidence management solutions.
The company says it has more than 42,500 customers in more than 159 countries and operates through a network of accredited channel partners and consultants.
